Acne - Whiteheads Information
Whiteheads are bumps that are white in color and form on skin. The basic reason for their formation is the accumulation of oil in the pores of the skin. They are sometimes referred to as comedones and pimples. They are different from other skin formations in the sense that they do not have any direct contact with oxygen and as such do not oxidize which is the case with blackheads.
They generally result in the formation of white or yellow colored lumps on the skin and so is the name whitehead. They can lead to a case where they can be called as cystic acne when bacteria are associated with them. Whiteheads are quickly promoted to a level where they block the minute follicles which may occur as a result of excessive exfoliation. Scientifically several fatty acids are responsible for the formation of whiteheads.
It is the sebum which when promoted by the oleic form irritates the skin by the formation of whiteheads. Due to its firmness the oleic sebum fails to flow out of the follicles and thus end up producing very hard plugs which are known as whiteheads and may in turn result in several acne types of infections.
