  • Acne - What are Pustules?

Pustules are basically kind of blockages on the pores of the skin and sebaceous glands which have become inflamed. The glands known as sebaceous glands are located in the regions where hair is present on the skin and some portion of the skin which is hairless except in the regions of palm and the soles of the feet.

These glands are the producers of sebum which is fatty oil. Sebum is responsible to keep the skin and hair moistened. It should be noted that sebum is a useful component on the skin without which the skin as well as the hair on it would have become dry and brittle.

It is sebum that maintains a good condition on the skin. Though sebum is a useful component, at times excessive sebum can result in skin disorders or some kind of ugly formations on the skin. Excessive sebum would flood the follicle and result in a plug formation that is hardened in nature. This blockage on the skin pores and near the regions of the sebaceous glands is termed as pustules.  It should be noted that when the plug formation on the skin comes in contact with certain types of bacteria, they may result in infections of the skin and require treatment.
