  • What kinds of Treatments are there for Infant Acne?

Infant acne rarely requires treatment, as it is essentially harmless to the baby and the kind of “treatments” that parents attempt, like vigorous washing, scrubbing and the use of creams and lotions often only worsens the condition.

Although there are a few treatments for the irritation and itchiness caused by the acne, like topical creams to reduce the swelling and inflammation, for the most part the best “treatment” for infant acne is to leave it alone and try to avoid worsening it until it clears up naturally at around four to six months of age.

If a parent is still not satisfied with this plan of action, then they can treat the acne with gentle water-only cleansing or they can use a mild baby soap until it starts to clear up. Most doctors however, only recommend the topical creams and other methods if the infant is struck with an extreme case of infant acne. Otherwise it is best to let it resolve itself as it will do in a matter of months. Remember that it looks much worse to you than it feels for your baby.
