Acne - Can Infant Acne cause Scarring?
In the majority of cases, infant acne does not leave any scars at all. The condition simply clears up on its own within a few months of the baby’s birth and it disappears, taking all of its skin blemishes with it. However, there are rare cases where the extremity of the infant acne can cause parents to worry about infant acne scarring. In these cases, precautions can be taken to avoid scarring. Precautions like cleansing the baby’s skin often with warm water, taking care not to rub the baby’s skin or irritate it at any time and using a soft wash cloth for bath time, all help to ensure that your infant will be free of scars resulting from a fairly normal condition.
Also, infant acne scarring can become a much more likely event if the baby picks and scratches at his/her acne. The best remedy for this is to prevent the baby from scratching when possible and applying topical creams to reduce the irritation and itching, giving the baby less reason to scratch at the blemishes.
For the most part though, you can rest assured that your baby’s acne will clear up in its own time and no traces of it will be left behind.
