Acne - Can Certain Foods Cause Acne Breakouts?
It is a common myth that certain foods like greasy pizza or fast foods cause acne. While there are certain foods that can indeed aggravate acne, there is no food that has been identified as having the ability to directly cause acne. Acne is caused by overexcited sebaceous glands and the production of sebum in excess. These factors cause swelling and red bumps, also taking the form or whiteheads, pustules and the like. That being said, there are certain foods that aggravate the problem because of the way they affect the body.
Dairy products, processed foods and caffeine are the biggest culprits in aggravating acne, as well as refined carbohydrates and an excess of fat in one’s diet. These foods all aggravate acne because they affect the body and its system in a way that causes stress on the skin and promotes further production of sebum.
The best way to fight acne in terms of diet is to have a well balanced diet full of essential vitamins and powerful antioxidants to fight off the infections caused by acne. As always, a standard rule is that a healthy diet will help to achieve a healthy body and skin.
