  • Does Exfoliating the Skin Help Acne?

Exfoliation is the process of removing the dead skin cells in cases of acne. Products that generally do this activity are termed as exfoliants. Exfoliating the skin reduces the number of dead skin cells on the skin and helps it to smoothen up the skin. It has a similar functionality in all the types of acne.

The basic outcome of exfoliating the skin is that the skin is smoothen and softened with the removal of dead skin cells and also brightened in terms of complexion. Exfoliating is a removal process and leads to a clean skin which in turn would reduce the chances of occurrence of acne on the skin. Acne is generally seen to occur when there are extensive dead skin cells or oil secretion on the skin.

When removal of such matter that is conducive to the occurrence of acne is done, the chances of acne occurrence are reduced. This means that exfoliating the skin also reduces the chances of acne. Skin has the ability to naturally exfoliate the dead skin cells through a process known as desquamation. This is a natural process involving the concept of exfoliation. As such skin periodically reduces the chances for the occurrence of acne.
