  • Acne - Information about Blackheads

Blackheads are usually tiny and dark spots on the skin which are generally formed by plug formations on the opening of hair follicles on the skin. Scientifically it is also known as acne vulgaris. This formation is seen whenever there is excessive deposition of oil in the sebaceous gland ducts. When oils and make up are in excessive quantities one can expect the formation of blackheads where there is access for the bacterium propionibacterium.

Blackheads are usually spotted amongst teenagers from the age group lying between fifteen and eighteen. As such sometimes this is also referred to as teenage blackhead rash. They result in the formation of red nodules and can be painful most of the time. It should be understood that blackheads are the result of excessive oil production on the skin by the glands when it gets collected in the pores of the skin. As and when the oil in the pores of the skin hardens it results in the formation of blackheads.

Blackheads exist such that they have an exposure to air on their top and become black in color due to the process of oxidation which gives a black color to these formations and this gives them the name blackheads.
