Can Birth Control Pills Help Alleviate Acne?
The relationship between acne and its treatment using birth control pills is one that is full of misconceptions in all their manifestation. It has also been reported that some birth control pills are the best cure for acne. Scientists have not yet identified a birth control pill that is the best cure for acne, but they have developed a theory in support of the same. It is this theory that gives us the fundamental starting point on the relationship between acne and its treatment using birth control pills.
Oily skin in women is one of the major causes of acne. The theory developed by scientist indicates that oily skin is caused by androgen; a hormone produced in the bodies of women. The higher the levels of androgen hormone in a woman’s body, the higher the chances of developing an oily skin. However, it has been proved that some birth control pills reduce the level of androgen significantly. In return, the chance of a woman developing an oily skin is also reduced. This way, the chances of developing acne outbreaks are reduced.
It is therefore, important to note that birth control pills cannot be said to be a perfect cure of acne. However, their intake has reduced the chances of acne outbreaks in women who take the birth control pills.
