  • What Type of Treatments is there for Pregnant Women with Acne?

There are some treatments and products that are absolutely off limits to pregnant women, such as any medication containing isotretinoin, tetracycline, doxycycline, and minocycline – all of which are often prescribed for acne but can cause serious birth defects. It is safe however to use certain products which are more gentle on your skin and the fetus. For specific, medical product recommendations it is always best to ask the advice of your doctor, but there are other options available to you.

A good moisturizer that is water-based and mild will work wonders, as dry skin often leads to more aggravated acne. Also, a good diet filled with anti-oxidants will help to fight off the infection and aid your skin in normalizing again. Gently washing your face with warm water twice a day can limit the severity of your acne; just avoid the urge to scrub your face as this will only make it worse. Finally, facials are always an option and can be a great help in fighting off acne, and as long as your therapist uses only pregnancy safe products, it is a perfectly safe practice during pregnancy.
